Summer Camp 2026 - Food Week

A deliciously creative week at EAPS Summer Camp! Our campers explored food through art while learning about ceramics, sculpture, painting, collage, packaging design, and Pop Art.

We kicked off the week by painting ceramic citrus slice coasters, creating vibrant fruit-inspired patterns while learning about color and design. To make their projects even sweeter, many campers added playful food puns to the back, including favorites like "Squeeze the Day" and "You Are Sub-Lime!"

Next, campers sculpted their own ceramic donuts, learning how to build hollow three-dimensional forms using slabs and armature padding. They practiced scoring and slipping as they attached frosting, sprinkles, and other delicious details to complete their creations.

Our food-inspired fun continued with mixed media ramen bowl collages, where campers experimented with layering paper and textures to create colorful bowls overflowing with imaginative toppings.

We also sculpted miniature foods from Model Magic, tinting the clay and carefully shaping tiny snacks, desserts, and sweet treats.

The following day, campers explored the work of Wayne Thiebaud, learning how artists use highlights, contrast, and shading to make everyday foods look almost good enough to eat. Inspired by his colorful paintings, they created incredible dessert illustrations on canvas tote bags that truly became wearable works of art.

To wrap up the week, we dove into the world of Pop Art with Roy Lichtenstein, creating comic strip storyboards that captured an apple being eaten using bold outlines, print-inspired patterns, and sequential storytelling. 

Finally, campers became packaging designers, building custom cardboard boxes for their ceramic donuts while learning how logos, branding, and packaging transform flat designs into functional three-dimensional objects.

It was another fantastic week filled with creativity, and plenty of artistic treats. We can't wait to see what next week's adventure has in store!
