Advanced Workshop - Plates on the Wheel

This workshop is led by Francesca Antonello, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, and photography.

Francesca brings a thoughtful, hands-on approach to teaching, emphasizing technical clarity, experimentation, and creative exploration. Her instruction focuses on helping students understand process - how form, material, and intention come together at the wheel - while building confidence through repetition and guided practice.

Students can expect clear demonstrations, individualized feedback, and a supportive studio environment that encourages both refinement and personal expression.

This Advanced Workshop is designed for potters who are already comfortable centering and pulling walls on the wheel.

Plates present unique technical challenges. Their wide, open forms require control, compression, and clarity of intention. Working at scale sharpens a potter’s understanding of balance, proportion, and restraint - skills that carry into all wheel-thrown work.

This workshop is best suited for those looking to slow down, refine their process, and focus on technique through intentional repetition.

• Throwing flat, functional plates with clean, intentional profiles
• Opening and expanding wide forms while maintaining control
• Compression techniques to prevent warping and cracking
• Creating consistent rims and well-defined edges
• Trimming plates for balance, proportion, and a refined foot

Instruction includes demonstration, guided repetition, and individual feedback focused specifically on plate forms.

Rescheduling is no longer available, but you can still cancel and receive a 50% studio credit toward any future service.

Less Than 1 Week Before Your Service
Cancellations are no longer eligible for credit. We simply don't have time to fill your spot for others waiting.
